Kicsit nehezen hiszem, hogy azt a "laza" jelzot is mar ugy hasznalnak
hivatalokban is, mint itt a "cool"-t.  A tipikus eset az, hogy valaki
magyaraz valamit egy masiknak, akit kicsit meg is kell gyozni, s azt az
illeto vegul azzal nyugtazza, hogy "cool!", vagy esetleg "It's cool,
man!".  Azert ebben a szerepben nehezen tudom elkepzelni a "laza" szot.

linguistically (psycho-, idiom-, generative-, stratified-) it's a neet 
problem, calling for alot of sensitive analysis.

back when Marshal McLuhan sang in the Media Quartet in Toronto, he'd use the 
thermodynamic scales of "Cool Media" to describe cinema and teevee, whilst 
"Hot" would be ascribed to theater and radio. Then, "hu:vo"s" and "foro'"
had an appropriate translation. (See film "Medium Cool". Read book "War and 
Peace in Global Village.)

i myself used to smoke szalona and gyulai kolbasz back in Hungary when the 
falui schra'tcok ran about calling someone "meleg". It was probably rooted in 
religious mythology or parable: "If it's not hot or cold, spit it out!" A 
clear restriciton to considering "warm" or "cool" as non-pejorative terms, and 
tightly linking these words to sexual descriptions.

when I met the great linguist Dr. Herendi, he explained the 
psychological/idiomatic meanings of "keme'ny" and "laza" and it's 
transportability to indo-european languages; i.e. "tough" (she's tough) and 
"wimpy" (he's wimpy). Neither of these terms, however, address a good 
translation of "cool" (except perhaps "fasza"),

then, we had a terrible disagreement on the ship we came on to New York, some 
hungarians demanded to use only their own words, while others, like myself 
recognized that all cultures make their own words to fit the times. The 
solution to this one is simple, grasshopper, there is NO magyar word with the 
morphemic meaning of "cool" (that i know of). far-out.

o.k., so i got carried away with "Usual Suspects", that is a "cool" film.

A "secularised" Xmas is still Xmas. If it was truly secularised, then
it wouldn't be called Xmas would it? 

Xmas is not a universal celebration, any more than say Ramadan
(Muslim), The Dragon Boat Festival (Chinese), Ramanavami (Hindu) and
Hoshi matsuri (Japanese) to name just a few religious and cultural
festivals. 

I don't understand why you feel compelled to impose a religious
greeting on a stranger whose religion you don't know, and for which
their is a possibility of causing offence.

Or do you get some sort of thrill out of offending people? Or perhaps
you think everybody should be forced to be a Christian or burnt at the
stake like they used to be?

BTW, in democratic secular Western countries I believe it is
inappropriate to have legal public holidays based on religous
festivals. These should be replaced with the same number of general
purpose vacation days.

Hmm, mintha en egy konyvet lattam volna ezzel a cimmel, tele fotokkal.

Egyebkent en nem csak dokumentumfilmekre gondoltam, hanem jatekfilmekre,
amik szerintem jobban hatnak az ifjusagra, mint a dokumentumfilmek.
Gondold csak hogyan hatottak rank annak idejen az olyan konyvek, mint az
Egri csillagok.  Mivel ma a TV es film az igazi hatasos mediak, ezeknek
kellene ugynazt a szerepet betoltenik ma.
